| Alliance of Global Intellectual Property Service (AGIPS) Established
——Bridging China and the World
China is becoming increasingly influential on the global IP stage. According to the 2014 Comprehensive Evaluation Report on China’s IP Development released by the State Intellectual Property Office of China (SIPO), China has improved its 2013 world IP comprehensive ranking to 9th from only 19th five years ago and ranks the 3rd in capability and performance.
As one of the fastest growing economies, the importance of China for transnational IP service institutions can be seen from the following figures. In 2014, China received over 2.2 million trademark applications, with a year-on-year growth of 21.5%, hitting a new record in the history and keeping the highest amount of the world for 13 consecutive years. Over 2.4 million patent applications and 1.2 million copyright pieces were registered. The Supreme Court’s 2014 work report shows that courts at different levels concluded 94,501 first-instance civil cases, in which 1,716 are foreign related, up 0.11%; in 4887 first-instance administrative cases, 1927 are foreign-related, accounting for 39% of the total.
Attracting a growing number of international IP firms, the broad IP market in China cannot be underestimated. In order to facilitate the worldwide communication and cooperation, Alliance of Global Intellectual Property Service (AGIPS), as a non-governmental international organization, is established in China on the 6th China IP International Annual Forum on January 23, 2016. AGIPSaims to bridge China and the world as well as to guide the healthy development of the global IP service.
About AGIPS
Initiated by China Intellectual Property Magazine and China Daily IPR Channel, Alliance of Global Intellectual Property Service (AGIPS) is a professional organization in IP service industry, voluntarily and jointly constituted by global IP service institutions, including IP legal service institutions, IP data service institutions, IP consulting institutions, IP appraisal institutions, IP medias and industry research institutions.
AGIPS aims to provide a global platform for IP service institutions on information exchange, experience sharing and business cooperation by organizing activities for mutual benefits with high quality service, especially for business tapping and expansion in China.
30 outstanding IP service institutions, 10 in China and 20 worldwide are invited as co-initiators. These institutions all possess rich industrial expertise and strong capability in trademark, patent, copyright, database, consulting service and litigation, etc. The Alliance plans to involve 500 international members in two years.
The Alliance will hold the AGIPS Members Assembly every year, functioning to guide the Alliance and make resolutions on vital issues. The Council under the Assembly, whose members are recommended by initiators designated after the Assembly’s discussion, is the decision-making institution in charge of daily affairs. The Secretariat of the Council is the serving agency established at China Intellectual Property Magazine.
AGIPSMain Tasks
AGIPS is committed to performing three main tasks.
First, AGIPS is dedicated to realizing resources integration and advantages complementarity in- and outside the Alliance. Internally, AGIPS members enjoy the privilege to be first selected as partners of internal cooperation; externally, members can be recommended to the public through media promotion. The Alliance will stimulate the cooperation and connection between members and extra-industrial enterprises on innovation protection and rights protection; and help members solve problems they encounter in development.
Second, AGIPS will hold various activities such as seminars and trainings on a regular basis, to facilitate information sharing learning and cooperation, enrich the process and standard in line with the requirements of IP service development, and improve the service of members internationally.
Third, AGIPS makes commitment to enlarge its influence and create the industrial culture for the achievement of mutual respect, fair competition and joint development among members.
What AGIPS Provide for Members
Expanding network in China and worldwide. AGIPS will hold Annual Meeting for initiate members only. On the meeting, initiate members have the priority to cooperate with other members in the Alliance with easier access to information and resources inside the Alliance. Initiators also have the opportunity to make an independent speech on the annual meeting, which is a perfect platform to promote business in China and worldwide. AGIPS will organize trainings, seminars, exhibitions, summit forums and social gatherings, etc. in which initiate members can gain the visibility through events sponsorship and attend those activities for free or at a very favorable price. For everyday business promotion, initiate members are available to digital and print advertising space in China IP Magazine (both Chinese and English versions), International Law Firm Directory, Email newsletters and the China IP Magazine’s website. All members enjoy the information publishing service on the AGIPS official website.
Understanding policies and IP updates in China and worldwide. AGIPS will offer Global IP Service Bulletin only for initiate members to get a deeper understanding on each country’s IP policies and updates (especially China) and take corresponding actions. All members can receive newsletters covering IP policies and updates of countries worldwide and get full access to International Law Firm Directory.
Conditions for Membership in AGIPS
Organizations applying for membership in AGIPS shall meet the following requirements: an independent legal entity with integrity; taking the leading position in the state IP service industry; dedicated to advancing the cooperation and development of the global IP service industry; capable of doing transnational business; endorsing the exchange of business inside the Alliance; supporting the AGIPS Constitution and fulfilling the AGIPS obligations.
The Unveiling Ceremony of Alliance of Global Intellectual Property Service (AGIPS) will be held on 23rd January, 2016 in Beijing during the 6th China IP Annual Forum & 2016 Annual Conference of In-house IP Managers in China. Government officials, IP judges, in-house IP managers and industrial experts will present at the ceremony.
